Summary of Advantages of Using Induction

Benefits of Using the Induction Process

Induction heating is beneficial in applications of ferrous and nonferrous metals. This process has many different advantages over convection, radiation, or open flame. Benefits include optimized consistency, maximized productivity, improved products, and extended shelf life. Induction heating is also environmentally friendly and reduces energy consumption.

In manufacturing and production, consistency is key. Consistency allows companies to create the same product over and over with little to no variation. By using induction heating, quality issues and inconsistencies associated with other heating methods do not exist. The system is calibrated by instruments to measure temperature, time and humidity. These machines eliminate human error. With the increase of consistency, productivity increases as well. Production rates are maximized by heat working inside the part. The startup of melting products is instantaneous and does not require warm up or cool downs in between sessions.

In induction heating, indirect heat is used. This allows for heat to be induced within the part itself. A great example is induction furnaces. In furnaces, metal is heated via induction rods, or induction housing units. The product never comes in direct contact with the heating source and can be heated inside the vessel of the furnace. The induction process allows for uniform heating and minimizes war page and distortion. Induction heating also extends product life. It delivers specific heat to material. This allows for minimal to no temperature gradients which can change the physical appearance of the product once cooled.

Energy consumption and environmental factors are decreased as well. Induction heating does not require the burning of fossil fuels. Induction systems erase smoke, waste heat and emissions. Energy consumption is reduced by using induction heating. Because induction does not require a cool down or warm up process energy consumption is reduced.
